Our new neighbors across the street, KitchenCru Culinary Prepspace and CorksCru Wine Merchants, have finished renovations and are having a Grand Opening party Monday, February 28. We can't wait to check out the space and see what the culinary incubator is all about. Plus, there will be food from Jeff McCarthy at Tabla, Rick Myers at Company Catering, and sweet treats from Lisa Clark at Petunia's Pies & Pastries, as well as beverages, hopefully from CorksCru. It's free, but don't forget to RSVP. Then afterwards, if you're not ready to go home yet, we're thinking there might be some afterparty action at Gilt (not free, but no need to RSVP). Take MAX or the 9 bus so you don't have to risk driving buzzed. See you there!

Interesting encounters always happen when we nab a seat at Gilt's curvy little bar. Tonight we got to meet an important figure in the Portland blogosphere. We spotted him having a drink with his friend before the Portland Trail Blazers game. As the creator of the popular PDX Wire ("I think we have one reader. Maybe."), he likes to keep a low profile and prefers to remain anonymous. We can report, however, that the two were having such a great time drinking Stellas and chowing down on happy hour burgers that they opted to have one more round even though it meant missing tip-off. Check PDXWire.com for interesting reads and upcoming events. And stop by Gilt for your chance to meet this dude and other members of the peanut gallery.

If you're coming in for our four-course Valentine's Day menu (Saturday, February 12 and Monday, February 14) , you'll also get to indulge in a custom cocktail-pairing menu with exotic libations crafted to complement the meal.
In case you're under the impression that all Valentine's Day cocktails have to be pink and syrupy with a sugared rim, consider the pairings for the main course:
1.5 oz cracked pepper and onion gin
1 oz imbue vermouth
3 to 4 dashes rosemary bitters
up, cocktail onion garnish
1.5 oz jim beam
1.5 oz grapefruit juice
1 tsp meyer lemon infused honey
on the rocks, meyer lemon peel garnish
You can add the special cocktails to your dinner (four drinks total) for $35 per person. And remember, when it's time to get a room, we are always happy to call you a cab (even though that isn't really your name).
